I'm really glad that I waited to write this review, because some of the effects of the peel weren't apparent until after a month- Here's my story: I'm 29 y/o female, caucasian redhead with fair skin, freckles, a few very fine lines and still occasional acne on my chin, and some acne scarring in the area around my nose. Something about my 29th birthday made me become obsessed with the condition of my skin and aging. I prepped, following instructions by stopping exfoliation a week in advance and using a 10% glycolic solution in the week before the peel. I washed my face thoroughly, and used 100% acetone (rather than alcohol), and then applied vaseline around my eyes and on my lips to prevent acid burns in those sensitive areas. I washed with Castille Soap, patted dry and had a bowl of Baking Soda paste on standby (good tip by the way, Browndivagurl, thanks!). I've had these professionally done before so I know how they burn and sting. I used the gauze pad included in my order (word of advice people - please use latex gloves or your fingers will peel!) and gave myself the first pass. After 5 long minutes in front of my AC I didn't frost, so I did a second pass (Please, please, PLEASE don't do this unless you have previous experience with this procedure; I've spent enough money on professionals to know what I was doing and I still managed to get too close to my eye area and burn the skin under my eyebrow). I have spent thousands of dollars on spa facials and peels and never have I had a peel so effective in one treatment. I was skeptical at first because I use several topical products such as bleaching creams and retin-A plus I take oral anti-biotics(a lot I know). Anyways, I let my face clear up from a breakout and applied the peel on a Thursday night. First I washed my face with Cetaphil and prepped it with alcohol. I applied the peel. Lots and lots of stinging and burning which is normal and immediate frosting where I had acne, so I used the the baking soda and water to neutralize those areas. I used my blow dryer on a cool setting, continued to frost, applied a second layer, again extreme stinging and burning and major frosting. I have had discoloration on my face for as long as I remember. My nose and forehead is several shades lighter than the rest of my face. This has made me very self conscious about my appearance. I have tried everything I could think of. NOTHING has worked for me to lighten my skin. I started to research chemical peels. I bought glycolic acid (70%). It didn't peel my skin, but It did make some acne go away. That's really all it did, I was a bit disappointed. I started to research TCA peels and saw that people with dark skin shouldn't use it. That being said, for those of you wanting a more youthful appearance, please be forewarned that these types of treatments are not for the faint at heart. You can damage your skin if you don't take care in what you are doing. If you have never indulged in this type of treatment I strongly suggest you start with a lower strength (preferably 12%) to experience your skin's worthiness to the peel's strength. Better safe than sorry...this is one place where more is not better...be patient. Follow the instructions and also review other blogs pertaining to others who have used treatments of this type. I accomplished what I was looking forward to and that was eliminating dark spots and minimizing fine lines and wrinkles through a scheduled maintenance plan. I ordered it on thursday afternoon, and got it in the mail on saturday. I spent a great deal of time reading reviews, and researching before I decided to do an in-home peel. I have had 3 done by a cosmetic surgeon, and have always felt like they were the best thing I can do for my skin. It really refines and corrects the skin. Any chemical peel is 'painful,' but certianly something anyone can endure...for the end results are worth it. The burn begins within 10-15 seconds, so be prepared to stand in front of a fan. I did 2 sweeps, even tho I frosted on the first time, and left it on for a full five minutes each time, as this is how I knew to do it for me. I also have a high pain tolerance. I have had dark spots problems for many years, lately it became worse, they were all over my face, very dark on the chicks, and the chin was getting darker also. I was desperating looking for a good dermatologist when a coleague told me about this product. As I know that La Roche Possay is one of the best brands, I bought one. I have been using it for about three weeks now and...WOW!!! my face has improved a lot!!! I still have the spots, but considerably lighter!!! I already ordered one more to continue using it, as it is working very well. I haven't noticed any side effect either, beside that sometimes my skin itches a little when I apply the product, but it passes after some minutes. I definitely recommend this product, its wonderful.
